A brief understanding the functions of satellite receiving systems What to look for when choosing a Satellite System
Virtually all of the communication satellites we are dealing with are positioned 36,000 km above the equator travelling the same speed as the earth. They appear stationery in the sky when "seen" from the ground and are often called geo-stationary satellites.
Because they seem fixed when viewed from earth, satellites make excellent broadcast and telecommunication relay stations. Thus a transmitter on earth beams a signal to the satellite which is received, enhanced and retransmitted back to earth. This trip up and back, a distance of over 70,000 km, lasts for about 3/10ths of a second.
The satellite is powered by the sun through solar panels. Because the available power is minimal, the retransmitted signal is quite low. Transponders on the current series Optus Satellites are nominally 50 Watts (Compare this to an ordinary 60 watt light bulb!).
Satellites are owned and operated by carriers eg (Optus-now part of Singapore Telecom who operates four satellites (A2, A3, B1,B3 and recently D1).and others such as Pan Am Sat (Pas8)
We are interested in satellites providing services to Australia, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand providing a range of broadcast and distribution services (video, audio and data).
Virtually all services are digital with many many services being carried by one satellite.
These days satellite operators shape their signal pattern to meet market requirements. Translated this usually means satellite power is not wasted in sending services where they are not needed.
Most services are now encrypted to service controlled markets and this includes assess to many free serivces.- Yes ABC/SBS and Commercial regional Satellite TV is encrypted. It is very important to understand this so that you purchase correct equipment, properly configured for the services you wish to view. There is no free lunch in this game.
Likewise Subscription services are managed to ensue that only viewers who are entitled to view services are able to do.
In this brief we will deal with basic differences between products. Detail within groups are dealt within the relevant product groups
Complete Systems
This group of products is designed to provide complete system packages for easy self installation.
In general each package is complete including simple test gear to install on a standard 45-60 mm dia pipe. (Nominal 1 1/2 inch to 2inch) Roof and wall mounts are available from our accessories list, and include metal roof mounts and wall mounts.
This group of
products including the DIY Componets are designed for the enthusiast
user who understands the workings of satellite Pricing is certainly the
main issue and is fine for customers who do not need the support of
education to mix and match the relevant items Portables
Portables are further listed on our Campersat web site and are specifically designed for the interent situation, like work camps, temporary buildings or any situatin where a quick temporary set us is needed. Product is then stowed away or transported when not needed. These models are specically designed to be easy to set up, easy to use and operate with a minimum of fuss.
In priniciple portables are packaged to be stowed in a convenient place and be brought out when needed. As with all Campersat products, they are designed to be self contained a much as possible, have no fiddly nuts, bolts, U-bolts or loosable items.
Mechanisems are designed to be easily adjusted, trimmed onto satellite , and remain in a stable postion whilst in use. Key features are:
• Documentation is designed to be easy to use without the need to use books of charts.
• Fasteners are stainless where appropriate with Nylock fittings.
• Mechanisns re calibrated with easy to move whilst trimming on satellite and with one handed operation
• Our Digital Test meter is fitted so it is not dangling on the end of cables
• Our Unique single cable connection to the test meter allows easy quick pull off removal and putting away when the task is done.
• The single cable connection provides for uninterrupted signal ot the receiver and without any signal quality degration that may be introduced by the test metser during dish lining up.
• Quick release main cable from dish to avoid damage or injury if cable is tripped over.
• Folding dish with captive strap.
• Fully approved and licnesed receiver for conditional access services.
• Full authorisation and program access set up as part of the delivery- not just forms and DIY instructions. This is an important aspect of all Campersat systems (except DIY) to ensue correct operation on relevant broadcasters services.
Roof Tops
Campersat Roof tops are designed to be more integrated wth the particular vehicle so that separate stowage is not required.
The equipment is operated within the vehicle and stays stowed away on the roof for travel.
The roof top range covers the manually operated product (from inside), automatic electrically operated self seeking Autoseek to the Speedray 1000 fully in motions low profile product.
The combination of in motion and low profile will suit a wide range of RV users including estury marine applications where program delivery on move is a real bonus. Similarly where roof height is and issue either in use or when stored.
The issue of receiver compatibility for each broadcaster service is even more relevant with roof top use .
Campersat Roof Top automatic products have in-built control syststems that are completely independent of the service reciever. This allows dish electronics and receivers to be fitted that are 100% compatible with the broadcaster services. This is particularly appropriate with Foxtel and Austar who provide the receiver. Users are often not permitted access to services with the use of third party receivers.
Please read each section and feel free to call for advice on models to order. Our SpeedRay 1000 is so easy to install that may RV builders are now offering it as part of vehicle order. Ask today. DIY packages

Components
are generally supplied out of the box from each relevant component
manufacturer together with documentation from that manufacurer.
Many
other suppliers of off the back of truck systems, or smaller operators
supply such items without additional value added. In many cases actual
components may not be ideally tailored to operate in a user-friendly
manner. Examples are: • Dishes that mount on poles for consumer
fixed applications being pressed in to a mobile or portable service
without the user understanding the logistics involved in actually using
the equipment in the field.
• DIY Packages are not generally available from Campersat resellers as
Campersat resellers are offering complete system products. Customers can choose from DIY packages, or individual items listed separately in our DIY accessory price list. Just note down part numbers and prices and phone order from our friendly staff.
